Back in the saddle - yet again!

Hey Guys and Gals!  How are you doing this week??  I feel like now I'm slowly getting back into a rhythm with my eating and exercising and I'm feeling great for it!  My diet the past two days have been particularly awesome if I do say so myself!  To give myself a kickstart, I have started the diet my trainer had me on last year.  When I was eating like that last year, I didn't crave so much sugar, carbs and just plain crap!  And I lost 13.8 lbs in four weeks to boot!  It's just a shame that I'm at an even higher point in my weight than I was this time last year.  I felt like I was aiming to try hit 200lbs on the scale!  Yes, I'm twisted in the head like that!

I know myself that I just can't handle having sweets, chocolates or crisps because I just can't control my eating once I start eating that stuff - they're like evil, addictive drugs.  Even having just ONE of something like that and it triggers a binge.  I have to eat it until every last morsel is gone, you know, so I can START my diet again tomorrow!  It's a vicious cycle.

I have been doing my brain training on the Kinect and I'm happy to say that my brain age has come down considerably!  I'm now only 46!!!  Isn't that fantastic!

I also wanted to thank you all for your lovely and awesome comments from my last post - you have no idea how they keep me going when I feel like totally throwing in the towel.  You all save me from myself!

My diet my trainer gave me is quite simple and easy to follow!  Basically it eating no more than 60g of STARCHY carbs a day.  So I am only counting carbs in things like oatcakes, fish cakes, rice, cous cous etc.

What I ate today:

Whey Protein shake made with water and skim milk
2 Fine Milled Oatcakes

Carrot batons with 75g Houmous

Reggae Reggae Chicken (yeah, maaan!)
with Salad and a dollop of red onion chutney.

2 Fine Milled Oatcakes

2 Cod Fishcakes
Carrot Mash with Laughing Cow Light Cheese Triangle
Knob of butter (bad yes, but the carrots needed a touch of something...!)lol

110g Light Cottage Cheese with Pineapple
5 Peach slices (from a tin - sweetened water)

As you can see I am eating A LOT!  Even thought I've only been doing this diet for two days so far, I have had no headaches, I feel like I have more energy, feel more confident and happy.  I hope I can just stick to this for 4 weeks and then up the starchy carbs to 100g a day or have a "cheat" meal and then get back to it again.

That's really all for now!  And it's pay day tomorrow - yeeee haaaa!

PS.  Has anyone been to see Limitless or the Lincoln Lawyer???  I'm dying to go see these movies soon!  Lots of eye candy.........mwahahaha!

I'm 73 years old!!

Hey guys!  Sorry about the lack of posting in the last 2 weeks!  I can't believe that 2 weeks has passed already - it's almost April, man!  How did that happen??  I sure can't wait for the Spring to arrive here.  Last Saturday and yesterday it was snowing again!!  I am really friggin' fed up with this Winter weather.  I really wish I lived in Florida.....sigh!

Soooo....... as for the last couple of weeks.......they weren't good.  A couple of days after my last post, I started to feel really down.  I felt I couldn't do this weight loss thing.  I had no willpower.  I felt hopeless and depressed and really like there was no point in anything.  (I know the reason to why I was feeling like this, but I can't really post it here).

And then I found this a week past on Saturday.........

and then, I discovered this fabulous blog...........

Faith, Fitness, Fun (This link will take you to her 30 days of self love programme) Love!

So I started reading the above book, (has anyone else read this???) and reading about loving your self and taking care of your self and I am starting to feel a whole lot more positive.  I'm still only at the first chapter of the book but it has already got me thinking about my life and which direction it is going in.  I want more out of life.  I am fed up of feeling tired, fat, hopeless and depressed.

On Sunday we bought Kinect for the Xbox 360!  And let me tell you.....it's totally fabulosity!  I love, love, love it!!  We got Your Shape, Dr Kawashima's Brain Training, Kinect Sports, and Kinect Adventures, and Kinect Joy Ride.

Your Shape-Fitness evolved is a fabulous training "game".  It has personal training, exercise classes, gym games and just so many options for working out you will never get bored!!  I was so sore the next day after doing one of the Combat classes.  Plus it sees how you are moving and if you aren't doing the exercise correctly it will tell you!  I don't know how many times it kept telling me to go lower on my squats and lunges!  So, so good!

Now Dr Kawashima's Brain Training is another story!  I did the test at the beginning which determines your brain age.  My brain age came out at 73!!!  But the next day when I took the test, my brain was only 53..............which is still very bad considering I'm only 33!!  No wonder, I'm starting to get grey hair.......(for real!  I'm scared!! lol)

On Sunday, I started tracking my calories again.  I found another great website called Lose it!, which is a free food and activity tracker.  It's awesome!  You can put in your weight, and how much you want to lose each week and it will tell you how many calories you need to eat in order to lose that amount of weight and what date you should reach your goal by if you keep losing the same amount every week!  Here is the link if anyone is interested in checking it out!  I feel it's more "screen friendly" than FitDay.  Plus you can set an option on Lose it to record all your macro-nutrients, so it's totally cool!

Lose it!

On Monday night I hit up the gym and just told myself I was going to do 30 minutes.  I hopped on the treadmill and warmed up for 2 minutes, and then I just started to run.  I ran for 8 minutes straight!!  And then I walked for another 2 minutes and then ran again for 8 minutes!  I had set the treadmill up to do 3km, which I managed in about 25 minutes, and then the cool down function came on.  I felt amazing, and full of pride that I had managed to run 16 minutes all in!  And I managed to do that even though I hadn't been to the gym in a fortnight!  Next time I am going to see if I can run for 1 mile without stopping.  I don't think I've ever done that before (well not since 2004!).

Last night, I did a quick weight workout on the Kinect Your Shape.  It was only 15 minutes but it was full of multi-moves like lunges with shoulder presses, squats with bicep curls and raises, and squat triceps kickbacks!  Just for the record.......I HATE LUNGES! lol

I'm sure there was more I wanted to talk about but I just can't remember!  That is always the way with me!  I'm constantly thinking of things to blog and then when I sit down to write, I can't remember what it is I wanted to write about!  Duh!  Not winning!

Hope I didn't seem to depressing in this post!  I am on my way up again :-)

New Food Find, New Frame of Mind, New Plan of Action!

Thank you guys for all your supportive comments on my last few posts!  It really does lift my spirits and makes me feel more positive, and reading all of your blogs only confirms the fact that I can do this!  You are all awesome!!

Today, I finally got my act together and have a new plan of action in place!!  Guess what it is?!  Go on, guess!

Diet and exercise!!  Wow, what a new concept eh?!  Seriously though, I have decided that for now I am just going to stick to counting calories.  My calorie allowance at the moment will be 1500 daily.  I am using Fitday to log my calories and exercise (which is free!) and my gym plan is just to get my butt along there.  I figured I will start off slowly again and build up my exercise as I get more fit and confident again.  I am aiming to get to the gym every day for a 30 minute workout.  That is totally doable and I'm just going to git 'er done.

So today's workout was a 10 minute walk (1.10km) on the treadmill.  I was going to do 30 minutes but my feet got really crampy and sore 8 minutes in.  I had my new trainers on, so I guess my feet and body are just adapting to them!  So I hopped off the treadmill and did 20 minutes on the elliptical.

The stats!

Treadmill:     Incline 2% - running and walking - 10 mins - 150 cals burned.
Elliptical:  Kilimanjaro Hill Setting - Level 10 thru 17!  - 20 mins - 200 cals burned.

I sure was a sweaty mess when I finished!  And, I felt great =)

I also hit up the grocery store when I left the gym and discovered this great little find!

Now, I know you probably have this the US & Canada, but it's the first time I've discovered them here.  I can't wait to make a pizza with them.  The only downside is that they're not wholemeal :-(  Maybe they will make them here soon.  Oh, and I wish they sold Vitatops here!  I am dying to try one!

I also prepared my salads for the rest of the week.  I chopped up a red onion and red pepper so that I can add these easy to my pre-packed salad bags.  I feel so in control :-)

I have just tried to sync up my Nike + to their website but it won't load today's workout :-(  It's shocking to see that my last run using my nike+ was August 2009!  Yikes!

Ok, time to catch up on some trashy TV before bed.

What I Would Wear if I were a size 4...........

When we were in Florida last September, I remember feeling so bad that I hadn't lost the weight I wanted before going visit the Sunshine state.  To be honest, the vacation was pretty amazing, but that little niggling voice at the back of my mind kept telling me it would have been better if I had been smaller.

When we were in Orlando back in 2005,  I was a US size 4-6.  I bought tons of clothes.  The shopping we did in the outlet malls was obscene!  I even have the most gorgeous size 6 black dress from Nine West in my wardrobe that I have never worn.  I will post a photo of it one day - it truly is amazing.  And it's so sad that it's just hanging in the closet with all of my other "slim" clothes, just wondering when they will see the light of day again.

I thought it would be fun to show some items of clothing that I would love to buy when I get small again!  See, I'm being optimistic, I say WHEN instead of IF!  Mwahaha!

These are all from Victoria's Secret.  I love that store!  I would have spent every penny in that store if I had been skinny back in September! lol

I love this top - so fresh, summery and sleeveless!

I would love to be able to wear this top - it's so pretty :-)

Something classy and elegant for work!

Some killer heels - I'm too heavy right now for these babies!

And a gorgeous bikini - gorgeous polka dot!

All I wear these days is black tops, scarves to cover my stomach (it's not really hiding it, who am I kidding?!)  work trousers (which are getting tight..... US size 16), horrible old granny looking shoes (they are sooo frumpy!)  and dark denims and cowboy boots for the weekend.  What a boring wardrobe I have!  But it feels like those are my only options right now.  Only I can change that.  And I am determined =)

A new look!

Since it is the 1st of March......I thought I would spring clean my blog!  Don't you love the fresh look??  I totally love it and it was free!  There is a button down near the bottom right with a link to the website....  ablogtobragabout.com

I don't have much to report at the moment as far as weight loss goes....because there has been NONE!  And I haven't been to the gym in a week and a half.  I need ROUTINE!!  I know what I need to do to get the job done, yet I seem to lack any motivation to actually get off my butt and do it.  Same goes for eating.  I am at my heaviest weight ever.  This morning I weighed in at 194.2lbs.

I need to stop focussing on how much I should lose each week instead of giving up if I only lose a pound one week.  Geez, if I just kept losing a pound a week I would be 120lbs by now!!  Why can't I get that in my thick skull??

Ok - I'm not going to whine anymore.  (Yeah, I sound like a broken record....).  I have a week's vacation next week and I am going to grab the bull by the horns.  This week I am going to clear out all the junk in my cupboards, clean out my fridge and get my house organized.  Right now I feel like I'm in a total guddle and I can't keep my focus on one thing.  I can't really sleep well at night for my mind racing constantly about what weight loss plan to follow........should I keep doing WW, should I try my trainer's diet again, should I just count calories?  I need to just pick one plan and stick to it for at least a month and then review.

I am leaning towards counting calories and using Fitday to log my calories and exercise.

Hopefully I will have more positive posts in the weeks to come.............

PS.  Just watched Losing It with Jillian Michaels - I just LOVE her!  She just gets in your head to find the answers to your problems!  I need that - but let me tell you - my head is in a total mess right now....
